Today's Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) face expensive challenges when investing in back-up power at the cell tower. Predominantly lead acid battery stacks are used, but they offer inconsistent power supply and unsteady system voltages that can hurt the station's performance. In addition to energy costs incurred to maintain the proper state of charge and to dissipate heat generation, there is no easy way to determine the state of health of a lead acid battery stack. This results in extended maintenance costs due to labor intense on-site monitoring and ignorant refresh cycles caused by lack of information. For an industry that spends just under $8b per year in lead acid, these issues create expensive challenges for the carrier to combat. To solve these challenges, Encell Technology has developed the Sentinel Smart Power System.
The Sentinel is a battery management system that protects your lead acid investment, extends its lifespan, monitors and tests the state of health of your lead acid battery banks and arms you with information that saves your technicians time and your company money. Encell's technology not only offers real operational savings but also cuts your lead acid purchasing cycle in half and lowers your energy consumption at each base station.
Benefits of Sentinel Technology:
Lead Acid Battery Life Extension - Reduction of internal temperature and exercising the batteries eradicate the typical internal corrosion failure that lead acid is known to experience. Encell's proprietary Lead Acid Battery Charging. technology allows for a controlled high energy charge and depolarization pulse conditioner to keep your lead acid battery stacks in optimal state. The useful life of the lead acid battery array is more than doubled when it is maintained by Encell's patented technologies.
Remote Management - By way of Encell's patent-pending "State of Health" monitoring the Sentinel has capability to test lead acid battery stack's individual batteries. Our architecture eliminates the affect of interference from constant float charging that impairs current monitoring techniques, allowing you to obtain the most accurate measurement possible. These tests are automatically run every twenty-four hours. Once on-site, your technician will get an instant visual reading and can also download the batteries, test history to a USB memory stick. Not only does this technology decrease time-to-root-cause identification, but also allows for informed replacement cycles of lead acid batteries and optimized inventory control.
Environmental Safety - Gassing and sulfuric acid spillage are virtually eliminated because the Sentinel takes the lead acid off of the buss enabling it to sit in a safer standby mode. The potential for acid spills is virtually eliminated.
Environmental Impact Reduced - The Sentinel reduces the need for environmentally "unfriendly", lead acid batteries over time, by more than doubling the useful life of these batteries in the field. Additionally, the Sentinel improves energy consumption at the tower.

Encell Technology Company SummaryEncell is a US based company with its R&D and manufacturing facilities in Alachua, Florida and its headquarters in Charlottesville, Virginia. Encell has combined several areas of its intellectual property to create an intelligent power management and buffer backup energy supply for applications that cannot afford a service interruption due to a power outage - it manages and protects backup systems for applications such as the base transceiver stations (BTSs) of mobile network operators (MNOs).
Encell's Sentinel is not without significant financial value as well. Our value proposition is grounded in firm financial returns that will allow you to make an informed investment in our technology. We welcome the opportunity to develop a case by case ROI and TCO analysis to aid in your capital budgeting decision.
Value points the Sentinel will provide your organization:
Capital Budgeting Metrics - Maximum 12 month pay-back and an IRR in excess of 75% for your investment.
CAPEX Avoidance - By extending the life of your existing batteries, the Sentinel protects your investment and halves the number of purchase cycles of batteries required to fit your back-up needs. The Sentinel's twelve year life expectancy can allow for exceptional savings in this time frame.
Maintenance and Operating Cost Reduction - Easy evaluation of individual lead acid battery cells for state of health monitoring is enabled through the Sentinel. This allows your technicians to have instant access to data that IF they were to do today, would take them on average 4 hours. Our technology will allow for decreased truck rolls as a result of power related issues at the tower and give your operation the knowledge necessary to optimize purchasing decisions and control inventory of lead acid battery stacks.
Reduced Power Consumption - Energy use at the tower is reduced by as much as 5% due to the elimination of float charging of the lead acid array, and elimination of the need for cooling to offset the resultant heat generation.
