Job Description:

Product Design Electrical Engineer with specific experience in low voltage / high amperage DC power system applications and UPS backup for Telecommunications applications. Experience at the base transceiver station level a plus. Specific understanding of cellular base station subsystems and familiarity with base station wiring standards strongly desired.

Individual will be responsible for overall product design, technical coordination, and product validation. Individual will be responsible for developing and managing overall product development schedule, testing protocols, and performance validation. Individual will have experience in and working knowledge of different types of Telecom DC power plants and related battery applications worldwide, and wireless centric mechanical and subsystem interactions.

Essential Responsibilities:

Define details of product design to ensure that resultant product meets all applicable standards, including UL approval, and details of construction. Work with the subsystems to assure all designs will integrate properly when applied to the overall system

Coordinate the required activities to obtain the required certifications from the different international certification agencies like UL, IEC, etc.

Manage the validation planning and testing to insure that the product is validated and meets the documented requirements

Provide all documentation and information necessary for volume manufacturing

Job Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering

Minimum of 5 years product design experience

Candidate needs to be available for meetings in Gainesville, Florida

Company Description

Encell is a US based company with R&D and manufacturing facilities in Alachua, Florida. Encell has developed and manufactures a family of green, safe and economical rechargeable industrial batteries. One of the main applications for Encell’s batteries is to provide energy storage and power back-up for the base transceiver stations (BTSs) of mobile network operators (MNOs). We also develop and manufacture green rechargeable batteries for the automotive sector, green building industry, the computer industry and other vertical markets.

Encell’s near term focus is on the mobile communications industry and secondarily on the fixed line telecommunications and data storage industries. To address these markets, we have designed and patented a power storage solution, the Sentinel™ Smart Power System. The Sentinel™ is a battery controller and contains a small carry over battery as well. Today we are focusing much of our sales efforts on the power storage and energy consumption requirements of the mobile network operator (MNO) and providing the Sentinel™ to address these needs. We are addressing the mobile communications, fixed line telecommunications market and the data storage market because these sectors are large consumers of energy and have large power back-up requirements to maintain their networks running in a continuous state. In an increasingly competitive deregulated global market, MNOs and telecoms companies are focused on reducing their energy consumption, CAPEX and being socially responsible by going green. The Sentinel™ addresses these three concerns. The Sentinel™ can also be used for the power storage requirements and for the reduction of energy consumption in other industries. Encell can easily modify the Sentinel™ according to the requirements of the industry.

Encell has designed the Sentinel™ to protect the MNO’s existing investments in their battery back-up systems or banks of lead acid batteries in their base transceiver stations (BTSs). The Sentinel™ is based on Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) chemistry. The Sentinel™ improves operating efficiency and reduces the cost of maintaining back-up power installations. An internal high rate battery minimizes grid induced voltage variation on the operating system reducing the effect of spikes and dips and reducing the frequency of power outages from instability. The Sentinel™ also provides intelligent management of installed lead acid batteries to double their useful life and optimize their back-up performance. By extending the life of an MNO’s existing batteries, the Sentinel™ protects the MNO’s, telecom or data storage company’s investment in its existing batteries and reduces the number of purchase cycles of batteries for a company’s power back-up needs. In addition, the Sentinel™ batteries improve upon the MNO’s base transceiver stations operating efficiency by reducing energy consumption by up to 6% per mobile network operator’s BTS and the Sentinel™ provides an intelligent management system of existing batteries and reduces the cost of maintaining back-up power installations.

Encell’s long term focus is to provide large format batteries for bulk energy storage and back-up. We have patents and designs to produce the best of breed batteries for large energy storage sites from building back-up systems to alternate power support systems like solar, wind, and tide in an environmentally friendly way.
