Computerworld – Updated figures released by federal officials on Monday showed 6,500 cell towers and sites were damaged or disrupted as a result of Hurricane Irene. That number includes about 44% of all cell sites in Vermont, which suffered massive flooding that cut off dozens of towns.

This year’s 41st Marconi Power Conference delved beyond the usual telecom powering issues to look at utility energy reliability and alternative energy solutions. Of particular interest was a roundtable discussion led by Marconi. The panel session was called “Alternative DC Power Topologies,” and it consisted of individuals from companies making micro turbines, flywheels and lithium-metal polymer batteries
