Encell is committed to solving the challenges of managing, storing and delivering energy in a clean, reliable, and cost-effective way.
At Encell we have a vision. We see an energy future that is far less reliant on the old ways of generating energy and increasingly committed to using alternative sources such as wind, solar, and wave. We see a future where this energy can be provided at a cost that is as low or lower than current fossil-fuel or nuclear sources, and with far less impact on our environment.
But before we reach that future we have to solve the energy storage challenges that these alternative sources create. How can providers maintain a consistent level of service when sun does not always shine and the wind does not always blow? How can energy providers and consumers navigate the tradeoffs between storage scalability, costs, environmental impacts, toxicity and longevity that current solutions reveal?
We were founded in 2010 with a goal to address these challenges. We design battery storage and have developed a family of green and safe products uniquely suited to the requirements of several rapidly growing market segments, including wireless communications, cloud computing, mobile technology, automotive, healthcare and alternative energy such as wind, solar, and wave. Our innovations include patents for battery design and chemistry enabling the unique capability of serving both power and energy storage applications with a scalable, safe and low cost solution.
Alternative energy installations cannot become cost-competitive with traditional installations until they can effectively store the power they generate until it is needed. Current storage solutions are currently too expensive per kWh due to factors including:
- Initial system cost;
- Insufficient cycle life and calendar life;
- Limited depth of discharge cycling requirements;
- Poor charge and discharge efficiency;
- Fading capacity during cycling; and
- Expensive climate control requirements.
Encell’s energy storage solution is uniquely well-suited to address these issues. Specifically, it can perform full, deep discharge cycles daily for over 40 years matching or exceeding the useful life of the power generating assets such as the PV solar panels. Further, it can be rapidly recharged from any capacity level to fully charged (i.e., when the suns shining or the winds blowing) and does not require climate control in hot environments.
